Maybach Dismissed. Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class to Fill Void.

Sources from Mercedes-Benz have announced an official expiration date for the upper-crust luxury brand, Maybach: 2013. The decision, of course, was not an easy one; but most parties agree, it's most likely to succeed in keeping the robust Mercedes-Benz brand healthy.

Originally, the Maybach 57 and 62 models were expected to undergo redesigns and emerge looking quite refreshed in 2014. Stagnant interest in the brand, however, has prompted the aforementioned change of heart.

Fletcher Jones Motorcars can't help but be a little remorseful to see the Maybach brand go. After all, it was reintroduced to the market just nine years ago.  That said. We're confident it is the right decision and excited over the fifth-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class expected to fill the void.

Shedding further insight into what was undoubtedly a very challenging decision, a Mercedes-Benz source who wishes to remain anonymous says, " We've come to the conclusion that it is better to cut our losses with Maybach than to continue into an uncertain future with a brand that has failed to live up to original sales expectations. Plans are already in place to fill the void left by axing the Maybach 57 and 62 with the next-generation [Mercedes-Benz] S-Class, which will be offered in three wheelbase variations and six different body styles, including a top-of-the-range S600 Pullman."1
