Mercedes-Benz Rolls Last CLS-Class Off Production Line

Mercedes-Benz ended the production of the first-generation CLS-Class - after several successful years and the hopes that a next generation version of the CLS-Class will introduce it to even more customers.

The CLS-Class was orginially launched in 2004, it started a styling revolution which made the term "four-door coupe" a household term, almost. This model was immediately successful, and went on to sell more than 170,000 units.

The last car was a CLS550 built for an American customer who specified the AMG styling package, premium leather upholstery, bi-xenon headlights, and other goodies.

Mercedes-Benz will introduce the second-generation CLS-Class in September at the Paris Motor Show.

Borrowing a number of design cues from the Shooting Brake Concept, the second-generation CLS-Class features an aggressive front bumper, a massive grill and LED daytime running lights.

The car's profile shows a coupe-like roofline, exaggerated wheel arches, and sporty side sills.

Under the hood, a gas powered engine will be provided by a 301 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and a 429 hp twin-turbo V8.

Diesel lovers will get to choose between a 201 hp four-cylinder and a 248 hp 3.0-liter V6. Mercedes-Benz will also introduce the CLS 63 AMG with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 pumping out 536 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
